Modalities Practiced

The Health Mechanics use a variety of modalities to deal with different muscular dysfunctions and situations. Your therapist will decide on which to use, based on the context of your problems and needs. Feel free to discuss with your therapist if you have any doubts or queries on these techniques.

woman proneSwedish Massage for Relaxation

Feeling stressed? Let us sooth your worries away and bring you back to optimal health, the natural way. The long, smooth strokes of this massage assists the venous return of blood back to the heart, where it receives fresh nutrients and oxygen which in turn benefits the muscle and all the internal organs. Relaxation massage also has an effect on other systems of the body such as the lymphatic system where it is stimulated to flow and speeds up the removal of toxins from the body.

Sometimes, due to various reasons, such as dehydration or muscle lessions, the connective tissues, known as fascia, tend to stick to each other and might result in limited range of motion. When this happens to the fascia, excessive pressure can happen, resulting in pain being produced.

Myofascial Release is the technique of breaking up the lessions between the fascia.

Trigger Point Therapy is the technique of treating and helping to alleviate the painful tight spots, or “knots” in muscles, bringing pain relief and better range of motion of joints.

Trigger points can cause pain referals in certain patterns, so much so that a muscular dysfunction in the lower leg can inflict pain as high up as the lower back. By using the correct amount of pressure and causing just enough localised pain so the right signals reach the brain, Trigger Point Therapy can aid in the correction of these muscular dysfunctions.

Dry Needlingneedling2

Dry Needling or more accurately, Trigger Point Dry Needling, (TrP-DN) is a treatment which involves inserting an extremely fine, single use sterile needle, (acupuncture needle) into a Trigger Point.

The purpose is the same as Trigger Point Therapy, but instead of using fingers and elbows, a needle is used. The benefits to this are; the needle goes directly into the belly of the muscle in question, resulting in a much deeper sensation without non-affected muscles getting manipulated unnecessarily, as well as allowing the therapist to work on different muscles while the needle continues to do its job.

Sometimes, muscular dysfunctions get so bad that the slightest pressure can cause alot of pain. That is where Positional Release Therapy comes in.

A gentle form of Neuromuscular Lession Release, clients get put into a position of muscle shortening, and enough pressure is applied and held for a long period of time, facilitating in the body’s own recovery of the dysfunction.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)pnf-stretch_1

PNF is a form of treatment that was initially devised to manually rehabilitate movement in specific patterns.

By fooling the self-defence mechanisms of the muscles that kick in when a problem occurs, the therapist is able to gently stretch a muscle pass its comfort zone while maintaining a level of safety.

PNF stretching can rapidly improve your flexibility for performance or in a slightly lighter version (Muscle Energy Technique, MET) as part of a rehabilitation programme post injury.
